Review & Comparison Policy
How we compare retro handhelds and the explicit boundaries of our research evidence.
Evidence Limitation: Specification Research Standard
Pocket Silicon evaluations derive from systematic specification research, public technical documentation, and community consensus. We do not conduct destructive laboratory stress tests, teardowns, or battery cycle experiments. All comparative ratings reflect documented hardware architecture, display geometry, and verified operating system requirements.
Core Comparison Criteria
- Chassis & Pocket Footprint
- Evaluates shell architecture (vertical pocket, horizontal bar, or clamshell) against commuter carrying habits and grip fatigue during long sessions.
- Display Aspect Geometry
- Analyzes screen resolution against integer scaling factors for classic 4:3, 3:2, and 1:1 console formats to flag potential scaling blur or black bars.
- Realistic Emulation Tiers
- Categorizes chipsets by proven capability floors (e.g., lightweight 8/16-bit vs. demanding 3D platforms) rather than ambitious reseller marketing claims.
- Firmware Setup Threshold
- Notes whether a device delivers a turn-key experience out of the box or realistically requires community custom firmware (CFW) for stable performance.
